Lead‑free brass – AquaNordic ®

Nordic Brass Gusum has developed a production method for lead‑free brass, AquaNordic®

With this method, free‑cutting brass CW510L AquaNordic® and dezincification‑resistant brass (DZR) CW511L AquaNordic® are produced

The alloys are lead‑free and have high machinability properties at the same level as brass with higher lead content.
Nordic Brass Gusum also has a lead‑free alloy for ingots intended for low‑pressure and die casting, CB771S AquaNordic®, which is both dezincification‑resistant and polishable.
All alloys meet regulatory requirements and are one hundred percent recyclable.

AquaNordic®

The Nordic countries, the EU and the USA have different regulatory requirements regarding lead‑free brass in products that are in contact with drinking water. The general trend is that authorities, companies and private individuals demand lead‑free solutions to an increasing extent. Therefore, Nordic Brass Gusum’s lead‑free and environmentally friendly brass is perfectly aligned with current developments.

Research

A surface that can be easily machined

There are other lead‑free alloys on the market that are not as pure. Through intensive research, Nordic Brass Gusum has succeeded in developing a material that contains no impurities such as silicon or other elements that complicate and increase the cost of recycling. This purity is unique to AquaNordic®.

Another unique property is that we have managed to recreate the lead‑like characteristic that enables turning and cutting of the alloy. We achieve this by adding a ceramic particle that gives the brass the same machinability as lead. AquaNordic® is used, among other things, in faucets and other plumbing equipment, including deliveries to the New Karolinska Institute.

We have succeeded in developing a brass alloy with only advantages. In addition to AquaNordic® being sustainable and environmentally friendly, it is also more cost‑effective. Moreover, it meets all known regulatory requirements.
